After the introduction of Apple’s MacBook Air in January, 2008, various companies like Dell and Sony Corp also joined the race to release light and thin notebooks to attract corporate as well as trendy people. Dell’s Adamo XPS and Sony’s Vaio X have been just announced with both slim factor and light weight yet powerful for daily usage. However, except for price tag, these devices have all the features you want in your PC.

Dell Adamo XPS
After months of anticipation, Dell has announced its revamped Adamo XPS laptop with a starting price tag of Rs. 1,50,000. Dell claims that it is the "world's thinnest laptop", at 0.4 inches thick, which will compete with MacBook Air, Thinkpad X301 and HP's Voodoo Envy 133 laptop.

Sony Vaio X
Sony Corp has launched the VAIO X in India, which features ‘Silverthorne’ Intel Atom processor. It is the world's slimmest and lightest ultraportable laptop as it weighs just 655gm and is about half an inch thin. The new device comes in two models, which are VPCX113KG for Rs. 64,990 and VPCX117LG for Rs. 84,990.

Here, we compare the two notebooks feature- by-feature.

Technical Specifications
The Dell Adamo XPS laptop features an 180GB hard drive, a 1.4 GHz or 1.9 GHz Intel ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processor, with 4GB of memory. It has 3 USB ports, located on the back. However, Sony VAIO X Series feature a low-budget Intel Atom processor, which is 2.0 GHz Intel Atom Z550 CPU, which is paired with 2GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD.

Thinness Counts
Sony Vaio X measures 11.0 x 7.3 x 0.6 inches, whereas Dell Adamo XPS measures 13.39 x 10.71 x  0.4-inch thin. Hence, Dell would win this one by a landslide or more precisely, by 0.2 inch. However, with bigger port selection, Sony leads the race.

Keyboard Comfort
Due to its small size, the X-Series keyboard's keys are tiny and closely spaced, whereas Dell’s keyboard is big and comfortable, with full-size aluminum keys and correct spacing. However, both devices have "Chiclet variety" keyboard.

Weight
Weighing just 1.6 pounds with its standard battery, the Sony VAIO X Series outshines the 3.2-pound Dell Adamo XPS. Hence, VAIO X is the better travel companion.

Ports make the Difference
Sony VAIO X comes with unique Ethernet jack, two memory-card slots and VGA ports, whereas Dell skips memory-card slots and other ports but offers dongles to substitute all this.

Battery Life
According to various analysts, Sony’s standard battery lasted about half an hour longer than the Adamo did in casual usage.

Display
Sony VAIO X features 11.1” LED-backlit display with 1,366 x 768 resolution that allows good viewing angles. However, Dell Adamo XPS comes with 13.4” display with same resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio.

Colors available
Sony VAIO X is available in matte black with a touch of bronze, but the company will also launch a Champagne Gold lid that will be available with a 128GB SSD. The Dell laptop is available in two colors, silver (marketed as Pearl) and black (marketed as Onyx).

Dell Adamo Review

When see Dell Adamo, we were very impressed. A thin body is the main attraction Dell Adamo. Unique body, made of aluminum plate intact. Of course, support the anti-scratch. Adamo it's thin body is one that creates luxurious and elegant.

As a luxurious notebook not wonder if Adamo use the SSD(solide state disk)128GB, and as a elegant notebook not wonder if Dell Adamo pair with Intel U9300 processor. Dell Adamo is thin due to several things. First, the use of 128 GB SSD as a storage media. Second, the type of processor used. Adamo in latin language is "felling in love" also has a wide screen.

Adamo physical body visible clean. No Intel logo or microsoft logo sticker attached. Dell Adamo has several ports on the left side, one LAN, one USB/eSATA, two USB 2.0, and one displayport DVI adapter. That there are other ports in the Adamo is a DC-in jack and headphone jact.

There is no microphone jack on Adamo. Also there is no hole Security Lock. Another thing that becomes a minus value is there is no SD card slot. The battery on the Dell Adamo also can not be removed because the battery is placed in the unit.

LCD screen on the Dell Adamo also visible wider than the specification of only 13.4 ". This is because Dell uses a glass panel from the edge to edge. We can set the maximum resolution of 1366x768, while the screen aspect ratio is 16:10. clear visible view, bright, and sharp. Despite having a strong glance effect. Tips to reduce the glance effect: try to push the LCD screen back to around 135 degrees.

Adamo Appearance are very luxurious and elegant. However, what about performance? PC Mark Vantage Score up to 2865 does not reach far different from the numbers of Cinebench R10. However adamo for encoding video takes a long time. And scores for 3DMark 2006 shows that Dell does not for gamers.

Dell adamo is beautiful and luxurious. Notebook is clearly not for everyone, but more suitable for peoples who love with the style. I think Dell Adamo price is expensive if we compare with other classmate products. However, the performance of Dell Adamo reliable enough to bloging, Facebook, e-mail, and office.
