Apple MacBook Air hands on video review

Hands on video review of the Macbook Air from Stuff.tv

Although actually a power supply it is popularly known as an AC Power Adapter or laptop AC Adapter, such as ASUS Eee PC 1000 adapter. Laptops along with most other portable devices use Direct Current (DC), this also applies to rechargeable batteries which power laptops. Direct Current has a constant flow of electric charge in one direction and flows from low to high potential. Connecting a laptop to AC is unsuitable and dangerous due to the varying magnitude and direction of the current, which can cause an internal component to fail and even result in fire.
Chances are you will run into this problem if your computer is more than 3 years old. When you do, the most likely culprit is a bad ASUS Eee PC 1000 adapter. It has happened on every one of my last 5 computers. Manufactures are notorious for using cheap power supplies to reduce production costs, but the good news is it is amazingly easy to fix yourself. Once you find the right unit, the repair takes minutes and you'll spend a fraction of the price a technician might charge.
Disconnect all power and external peripherals (printer, external drives, etc) from your computer and remove the cover or side panels. Don't be afraid, it only looks intimidating in there. The ASUS Eee PC 1000 adapter is located in a corner. It is probably the largest component inside the computer and looks like a metal box, usually with a fan built in. The ASUS ac adapter power cord plugs into it and there are various cables from the other components plugged into the opposite end. It is very easy to locate.
Also, if your computer has a high end graphics card or other high end components, it may have a ASUS Eee PC 1000 adapter with a higher rating than stated above. If you've upgraded these components in the past and neglected to upgrade the ASUS ac adapter, this could have caused the failure and you should look at your upgrade documentation to determine how much additional capacity you should buy to properly power those components.
Once you get it home, attempt to remove the old devise by removing the screws and sliding it out. It's heavier than most parts inside the computer so be careful not to drop it on any of the more delicate parts. If you can get it out with all the ASUS Eee PC 1000 adapter connections still intact, do so. Install the new one and then remove the cable connections from the old unit and transfer to the newly installed replacement one at a time.

Macbook Air Review

At first sight

Computer manufacturers have responded positively to our demands for laptops that are as functional as possible. Too often, however, the results are machines that are space savers on desks but are not as convenient to carry around or prop on your knees as their name suggests. Apple has therefore gone back to the basic purpose of a laptop – portability – and introduced its light and thin MacBook Air.

When describing Mac Computers, there’s always a possibility that words such as "stylish" and "elegant" will appear too frequently; but when you first come across a MacBook Air, no one can blame you if these words spring to mind. "I want people to see me with this," is the sort of comment that may run through your head. The MacBook Air is sleek: it’s just 4mm (1/6 inch) at the front, tapering out to a mere 19mm (3/4 inch) at its deepest point. It’s also robust: the aluminium casing ensures that thinness doesn’t mean fragility.

Pick up the Macbook Air and you further appreciate what Apple has achieved. At 1.36kg (3 pounds), the MacBook Air easily beats Apple’s previous lightweight, the 2.26kg (5 pounds) MacBook.

With such a drop in weight, you cannot help but wonder if you’re going to open up the MacBook Air to find a tiny screen that causes you to squint and a keyboard that bunches up your fingers. The reality is a 13.3 inch widescreen display and a full size keyboard. What’s more, a large trackpad complements these to give an overall impression that this is a laptop that’s both practical and a pleasure to use.

The technology of the MacBook Air

It stands to reason that Apple has had to surrender some technological capability to make a laptop that’s so thin and that has shed so much weight. Or has it? You still get an Intel Core 2 Duo processor of either 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz with 2GB of memory for both. You also have an 80GB 4,200 rpm hard drive for the 1.6GHz model, a 64GB solid-state drive for the 1.8GHz, and built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. These specs are easily good enough for most everyday laptop uses.

Hardware

The hardware of the MacBook Air includes

an iSight camera and microphone a mono speaker an infrared receiver a built-in battery an ambient light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the backlit LED screen and brightens the keyboard as necessary

Tucked neatly away in a hatch on the right-hand side of the MacBook Air are also three ports:

a headphone/speaker jack a USB 2.0 port a micro DVI port

A possible hardware concern is the one USB port. By itself such a port is rarely enough, so if you plan to connect a series of peripheral devices at the same time, you’ll need a USB hub. As for the micro DVI port, the MacBook Air comes with useful VGA and DVI adaptors to improve your connectivity options.

You may have noticed by now a hardware omission: the MacBook Air doesn’t have an optical drive. Instead, Apple offers an external 8x SuperDrive. Whether you need this depends on your use of CDs and DVDs. Another choice is to employ Apple’s Remote Disc application so that your MacBook Air connects to a network and links with the optical drive of another Mac or PC.

Remote Disc is very handy because it installs software and gives you access to files. Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t allow you to play or burn CDs and DVDs remotely. When you want to listen to music, or watch a film or TV programme, you must turn to iTunes. If you already own an iPod, this isn’t exactly a hardship.

Software

Apple includes Remote Disc with the usual bundle of MacBook Air software. This software comes with the excellent Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard operating system and offers you everything you’d expect from all other Macs. What’s more, you can swiftly navigate and manage the software with the responsive features of the MacBook Air trackpad.

Battery

The MacBook Air’s battery can give you up to five hours continuous service. Once it dies, however, you may have a problem. The MacBook Air has the battery built in, so you can’t replace it with one that’s fully charged. Your only alternative is to find an electric socket for the MagSafe Power Adaptor, an option that’s not always available if you’re on the move.

MacBook Air performance

For standard tasks such as keeping up with your email, writing, and browsing the Internet, you won’t find a significant speed difference between a MacBook Air and the more powerful MacBook. Some people may still worry about the smaller processor sizes and the relatively slower speeds of the hard drives on both MacBook Air models compared to other Apple laptops. What you have to do, however, is ask yourself why you want the MacBook Air. Complex graphics applications, for example, will certainly strain the processor’s capacity, but then again, if you have this sort of use in mind, you probably need a MacBook Pro anyway.

The fact remains that the MacBook Air is a truly portable all-purpose laptop that performs daily computing jobs extremely well. For most of us, this is precisely what we want.

Conclusion Pros

The MacBook Air is light, thin and unquestionably stylish The casing is robust The 13.3 inch screen automatically adjusts its brightness, thanks to a light sensor The keyboard is full size and lights up in dim conditions There are technology compromises, but most users will notice little difference in speed and responsiveness to a MacBook

Cons

The lower processor and hard drive specs (compared to the MacBook and MacBook Pro) may disappoint some people Inability to swap a dead battery for a fresh one may cause difficulties in some circumstances

Dell Adamo Review

When see Dell Adamo, we were very impressed. A thin body is the main attraction Dell Adamo. Unique body, made of aluminum plate intact. Of course, support the anti-scratch. Adamo it's thin body is one that creates luxurious and elegant.

As a luxurious notebook not wonder if Adamo use the SSD(solide state disk)128GB, and as a elegant notebook not wonder if Dell Adamo pair with Intel U9300 processor. Dell Adamo is thin due to several things. First, the use of 128 GB SSD as a storage media. Second, the type of processor used. Adamo in latin language is "felling in love" also has a wide screen.

Adamo physical body visible clean. No Intel logo or microsoft logo sticker attached. Dell Adamo has several ports on the left side, one LAN, one USB/eSATA, two USB 2.0, and one displayport DVI adapter. That there are other ports in the Adamo is a DC-in jack and headphone jact.

There is no microphone jack on Adamo. Also there is no hole Security Lock. Another thing that becomes a minus value is there is no SD card slot. The battery on the Dell Adamo also can not be removed because the battery is placed in the unit.

LCD screen on the Dell Adamo also visible wider than the specification of only 13.4 ". This is because Dell uses a glass panel from the edge to edge. We can set the maximum resolution of 1366x768, while the screen aspect ratio is 16:10. clear visible view, bright, and sharp. Despite having a strong glance effect. Tips to reduce the glance effect: try to push the LCD screen back to around 135 degrees.

Adamo Appearance are very luxurious and elegant. However, what about performance? PC Mark Vantage Score up to 2865 does not reach far different from the numbers of Cinebench R10. However adamo for encoding video takes a long time. And scores for 3DMark 2006 shows that Dell does not for gamers.

Dell adamo is beautiful and luxurious. Notebook is clearly not for everyone, but more suitable for peoples who love with the style. I think Dell Adamo price is expensive if we compare with other classmate products. However, the performance of Dell Adamo reliable enough to bloging, Facebook, e-mail, and office.

Acer Aspire 3810 Laptop review:

The Acer Aspire 3810 Timeline laptop is equipped with a six-cell Acer Aspire 3810 Battery , providing up to 8 hours of Laptop battery life. It's a lightweight 13.3 inch notebook with configurations featuring either an Intel Core 2 Duo or Pentium dual-core processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, a 5-in-1 media card reader and integrated webcam.

Long laptop battery life is the oft-touted but rarely fulfilled specification for many a laptop. But now Acer has delivered on the promise with the Acer Aspire Timeline 5810T, a thin and lightweight but usefully powerfully 15in notebook.

The Acer Aspire Timeline 5810T is slightly wider than 15in in fact, as it uses a new-style widescreen display that measures up at 15.6in in its 16:9 ratio. This glossy panel is bright and cheerful enough, colourful without being as oversaturated as some panels we see.

Quick Specs
Screen Size: 13.3-inches
Processor: Core 2 Duo, Intel Pentium Dual Core
Graphics: Integrated

The two big things you'll find missing on the Timeline 3810T are an optical drive and Bluetooth (although both are available in related 14- and 15-inch configurations). We're perfectly happy to skip the DVD burner, but Bluetooth is very handy for tethering a 3G smartphone, or for connecting a travel mouse.

Intel's single-core SU series CPUs (part of the Consumer Ultra-Low-Voltage line, or CULV) have been generally lackluster performers, but the dual-core U9400 version in the Timeline 3810T provides a much more usable overall experience. It easily out-performed the single-core MSI X340, and in anecdotal use it felt perfectly capable of performing standard tasks smoothly, such as Web surfing, working on office documents, and media playback. Of course, adding 4GB of RAM also helps--both the MSI X340 and Dell Adamo had only half that.
